Vietnamese table tennis and the data gap: Lessons from the nine-dimension analysis framework

Look at the Chinese national team: every flick, every foot movement is recorded and dissected. They know where an opponent likes to topspin in game five, and they adjust millimeter by millimeter. Here in Vietnam, we still write articles based on what the eyes see and the ears hear. Numbers don't lie, but they only tell stories when someone is willing to listen. And that someone has no place in the press room unless they bring their own chair. I once had to use 47 off-ball runs of a midfielder to prove I belonged there. For table tennis, the road is even longer. I propose three steps: first, federations must standardize point-by-point recording; second, build an open database of head-to-head records between Vietnamese and international players; third, train sports journalists to read data, not just write emotions. The nine-dimension framework is not an immediate winning formula, but it is a compass so we don't get lost. Gold trophies will fade, but the story behind the metal remains. And that story begins with an empty statistics table — but one full of promise.
